NEW BUILDS - ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTS
Sackville Street
SACKVILLE STREET, FITZROY
DESIGN + BRIEF
Situated in the coastal suburb of Fitzroy, our clients Leonard and Sally took on the task to design their own home.
Wanting to create a house that would be cool in summer/warm in winter, Leonard and Sally cleverly incorporated energy efficient + solar passive guidelines into their design, achieving year-round comfort and energy conservation. Two storied and rectangular in shape the house has a low angled mono pitched roof. Buttress walls to the front façade accentuate the thickness of the mass walls; which also support the cantilevered roof overhang. Together all of these well thought out architectural features execute a clean, simple and streamlined appearance whilst also providing shade and shelter in the necessary places.
Leonard and Sally have created a modern, well laid out, apartment style living for themselves with a generous self-contained guest apartment on the ground level. Sleek and stunning; their home has come together beautifully.

Craig Macleod is an excellent Building Contractor who takes a lot of pride in what they do, achieving a very high standard of workmanship, accuracy and detail. We found Craig and Ethan to be likeable, honest and hardworking individuals who we could rely on. The project was well organised and ran very smoothly. This is our first house build and Craig was able to guide us through the entire process, passing on his knowledge and always keeping us informed. He was able to anticipate potential issues before they became problems and gave us some great advice.
He was intrigued by the whole passive house approach from the outset and had a terrific grasp on what we required. It was a departure from your typical house build and he was enthusiastic about the project challenges. We were able to work very closely with him during the construction and we developed a great respect for his manner and the way in which he conducted his business.
We are delighted with our new home and we thank Craig and Ethan for all their efforts in making sure it was a pleasant and hassle free experience. We have recommended him to our friends and wish him every success for the future.”

Significant local materials were to be used, hence the local river stone walls.

With a relatively small footprint the structure maintains a complimentary hierarchy with the existing house. The design is of a high level of specification with beautiful detailing & craftsmanship externally, with a luxurious interior fit out.

We St Georges By The Sea Limited have completed two major phased of construction and had Craig MacLeod working for us. In 2010 we built St Georges house by the sea whereby Craig helped on the project and was a valuable lead hand for my main builder. Subsequently in 2014 we developed a 4000m2 lot complete with landscaping, a clay tennis court and pavilion, a storage facility with 10KWp solar power on the roof and a guest house. Craig MacLeod was the main contractor on this project, he did most of the work with his team and skilfully led the other specialist trades to perform an intricate very well built project. The project was tight schedule with a completion date that had to be met, Craig completed on time and overcame any obstacle to meet the schedule without compromising quality.
Craig is a seasoned professional and really knows the carpentry trade and the entire coordination involved to perform the project as general/main contractor. Craig is well supported by his training, his own work ethic and standard of care and integrity which are paramount attributes for a top class builder.
I am the Director of St Georges By The Sea Limited and also President of Newton Group Ltd a mid sized general contracting firm in Canada and we are planning a 3rd phase of construction to build an addition to the guest house that Craig MacLeod built, we will be using Craig again on this project.
I would recommend Craig MacLeod Construction for anyone looking for a very high quality builder, to work for a fair price, with honesty and integrity and get the project completed on time, on budget with great looking final product.”

BRIEF & DESIGN
After many years living on site in a cold and drafty weatherboard bungalow, our clients brief was to create a house that maximized thermal efficiency and was a contemporary take on the traditional notion of the house, all the while keeping in mind a relatively modest budget.
The house takes its formal cues from the surrounding residential and coastal context, whilst also looks to provide a unique and interesting appearance through its materiality and composition. Furthermore, the completed house through its massing helps to regulate temperature, which along with full consideration of passive heating and ventilation principles allows for year round internal comfort.

“TESTIMONIAL
After three years of planning our new home we were on the look out for a builder and we were fortunate to have Craig recommended by a neighbour. Craig bought all the enthusiasm and skills we were looking for. Not only was he a great person to work with but also the quality of his workmanship and attention to detail was second to none. We enjoyed working with him.
We are very happy and proud of our new home and very much appreciate the effort Craig, Penny and the team put into the build. We have recommended him to others that we know of and we will continue to do so.”
“TESTIMONIAL
It was great to have Craig as a builder, always consulting my opinion on decisions made with Kevin and having an open mind to receive a woman’s feed back. Every day I find a new detail in the house which shows his perfect craftmanship.
